ADC Criticises Tinubu’s Handling of Security

In response to the report, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has criticised President Bola Tinubu’s administration over the worsening security situation.

ADC spokesperson Bolaji Abdullahi, in a statement issued on Thursday, said the GTI findings confirm that Nigeria is experiencing its deadliest period of terrorism.

“While President Tinubu eats cake in London, the Global Terrorism Index confirms that more Nigerians have died from terrorist attacks under his watch than at any other time in history,” Abdullahi said.

He noted that terror attacks increased by 43 per cent under the current administration, rising from 120 incidents in 2024 to 171 in 2025. According to him, Borno State now accounts for 67 per cent of attacks and 72 per cent of deaths, with civilians making up 67 per cent of those killed.

Abdullahi also contrasted Tinubu’s response to recent killings with that of former U.S. President Donald Trump, who received the bodies of American soldiers killed in the Iran conflict.

“When 30 civilians were killed this week in Borno, President Tinubu flew to the United Kingdom for tea and biscuits,” he said.

The ADC spokesperson outlined a three-point security plan the party intends to implement if elected. These include establishing a national intelligence coordination system led by a Coordinator of National Intelligence, creating a decentralised policing structure with federal, state, and community layers, and building a preventive security system based on early warning mechanisms and rapid response units.

The criticism comes amid ongoing concerns over insurgency in the North-East, particularly in Borno State, and as President Tinubu undertakes a visit to the United Kingdom.
