ADC Inaugurates Committee to Review Party Constitution

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has inaugurated a Constitution Review Committee, tasked with updating the party’s governing document. The move is seen as part of preparations to strengthen the party as a key opposition platform ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The committee was inaugurated in Abuja on Thursday by the party’s National Chairman, David Mark, a former Senate President. He charged the members, led by Senior Advocate of Nigeria Etigwe Uwa, to develop a framework that ensures inclusiveness, transparency, and accountability.

Mark described a party’s constitution as its moral and legal compass, stating the review aims to align the ADC’s rules with present realities and democratic best practices. “This exercise is not about changing principles; it is about strengthening them,” he said.

He outlined that the committee must focus on promoting fair participation, clarifying the roles of party organs, and ensuring credible processes for primaries and dispute resolution. The committee is expected to submit an interim report within 30 days.

In his response, Chairman Etigwe Uwa pledged a comprehensive and inclusive review process. He stated the goal is to produce a constitution that is fair, democratic, and attractive to potential members.

The ADC was selected as a coalition platform for opposition leaders in July 2025 and has been working to consolidate its national structures.
