Afe Babalola Calls for Urgent Rehabilitation of Key Ekiti Road

Legal luminary and founder of Afe Babalola University, Ado-Ekiti (ABUAD), Aare Afe Babalola (SAN), has appealed to the Federal Government to urgently rehabilitate the Ado-Ijan-Ilumoba-Ikole Road, describing its condition as a major challenge to residents, businesses, and institutions that rely on the route.

Babalola said the road serves as a vital link connecting several communities within Ekiti State and neighbouring areas, while also providing access to major educational, healthcare, agricultural, and transportation facilities.

He expressed concern that years of neglect have left the road severely damaged and difficult for motorists to use, despite repeated calls for government intervention.

According to him, the university previously committed substantial resources to maintaining parts of the road and an adjoining bridge in an effort to ease transportation challenges. However, he noted that rehabilitation efforts carried out over the years have failed to provide a lasting solution.

The elder statesman said the deteriorating condition of the road has affected daily activities, including the movement of lecturers, students, and other road users, leading to delays and increased transportation difficulties.

He also recalled previous efforts to draw the attention of federal and state authorities to the state of infrastructure in Ekiti, stressing the need for improved accessibility to support economic growth and development.

Babalola further highlighted the importance of the route to institutions and facilities located along the corridor, including educational establishments, healthcare centres, storage facilities, and the state’s cargo airport.

With major international events expected to attract visitors to the state in the coming months, he urged the authorities to take immediate action to restore the road and improve travel conditions for residents and visitors alike.

He maintained that rehabilitating the road would enhance mobility, support economic activities, and project a positive image of the state to both local and international guests.
