Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has paid tribute to his predecessor, the late Rotimi Akeredolu, on the occasion of his 70th posthumous birthday, describing him as a courageous leader, mentor, and statesman whose contributions continue to shape the state.

In an official commemorative message issued on Tuesday, Governor Aiyedatiwa highlighted Akeredolu’s bold leadership and unwavering dedication to justice, public service, and regional development.

Reflecting on their working relationship, Aiyedatiwa expressed profound gratitude for the mentorship and trust extended to him during his tenure as deputy governor under the late administration. He noted that the leadership lessons he acquired continue to guide his current governance approach.

“Though he is no longer with us, the ideals he lived for, his courage, conviction, and unwavering commitment to the progress of Ondo State continue to inspire us,”* Aiyedatiwa stated.

The governor reaffirmed his administration’s resolve to build upon the foundation laid by the former governor, particularly regarding state security, infrastructural growth, and economic stability.

Rotimi Akeredolu, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) and former President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), served as governor from February 2017 until his passing on December 27, 2023. During his tenure, he was a key figure in advocating for true federalism and spearheaded the creation of the Western Nigeria Security Network, codenamed Amotekun.

Aiyedatiwa concluded his tribute with prayers for the repose of Akeredolu’s soul and offered words of comfort to the late governor’s family and well-wishers across the country.
