Amazon Announces 16,000 Additional Job Cuts Worldwide

E-commerce giant Amazon has confirmed it is eliminating an additional 16,000 positions globally, expanding a major restructuring effort first announced in October.

The latest cuts were disclosed in a statement on Wednesday by Beth Galetti, Amazon’s Senior Vice President of People, Experience and Technology. She stated the reductions are intended to streamline the company by “reducing layers, increasing ownership, and removing bureaucracy.”

This new round brings the total number of planned corporate job cuts to approximately 30,000. Media reports from last fall indicated these reductions would affect nearly 10 percent of Amazon’s 350,000 corporate and office employees worldwide. The company has clarified that the vast majority of its 1.5 million workers, particularly those in distribution and warehouse roles, are not impacted.

Amazon did not provide a regional or departmental breakdown of the newly announced 16,000 cuts. The company stated that “every team will continue to evaluate” its structure and efficiency.

These layoffs come amid significant company investments in areas like artificial intelligence. Amazon is scheduled to release its full-year 2025 financial results on February 6, followed by a live conference call.
