ANAMBRA AUDITOR-GENERAL REPORTS N750M UNACCOUNTED FUNDS IN 2024

Anambra State’s Auditor-General, Akosa Okocha, has disclosed that ₦750 million remains unaccounted for by various state ministries, departments, and agencies in the 2024 fiscal year. Okocha made this known at the 2025 Audit Forum and Citizens Accountability Dialogue held in Awka on Thursday.

He noted this represents an improvement from ₦2.5 billion in unresolved audit queries in 2023, attributing the reduction to proactive measures by his office. “My office ensures breaches are identified and rectified. Some MDAs have responded and provided evidence to clarify issues in the unresolved queries,” Okocha said.

He warned auditors against unprofessional conduct, emphasizing compliance with audit checklists and laws. Principal consultant Ademola Okeleye called for resolving 2024 queries to boost public confidence in governance and urged citizens to pay taxes.

Okeleye highlighted poor performance in 2024 revenue windows, including tax receipts realizing only 4.22% of anticipated figures. Speakers, including Prof. Tochukwu Okafor and Dr. Adokwe Ekene, stressed that improved auditing would enhance service delivery, transparency, and accountability, helping curb corruption in Anambra State and Nigeria.
