Anambra Couple Remanded in Custody Over Alleged Assault on 10-Year-Old Boy

A couple has been remanded at a correctional center following their arraignment for the alleged severe abuse of a 10-year-old boy under their care in Anambra State.

The suspects, identified as 40-year-old Chukwudi Chukwuyere and 30-year-old Chisom Chukwuyere, were brought before the court after the conclusion of a preliminary police investigation. The case gained widespread attention after distressing video footage of the young victim, showing extensive injuries and scald burns across his body, went viral on social media platforms.

The state police command confirmed the development on Thursday. According to the police spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the swift intervention of security agencies was made possible by vigilance and timely information provided by local residents. This cooperation enabled authorities to rescue the child, secure immediate medical attention for him, and apprehend the guardians.

The victim is currently hospitalized and undergoing treatment under state protection. During a recent follow-up visit to the medical facility, the First Lady of Anambra State expressed satisfaction with the child’s steady recovery, describing his stable condition as a testament to the dedication of the healthcare team and the support from the community.

Law enforcement officials have reaffirmed their commitment to ensuring justice and protecting human rights as the legal proceedings continue.
