APC Denies Coercing Workers into Membership Registration in Enugu

The All Progressives Congress in Enugu State has dismissed allegations that local government chairmen are forcing government workers to register or revalidate their party membership as a condition for receiving salaries.

The Chairman of the APC Caretaker Committee in the state, Dr. Ben Nwoye, labeled the claims as false and politically motivated during a press interaction on Tuesday.

Nwoye spoke at Udi Local Government Area during the membership revalidation of the party’s immediate past state chairman, Chief Ugochukwu Agballah. He maintained that the ongoing APC registration and revalidation exercise is voluntary and has seen widespread participation without coercion.

“Look at what is happening here today. Do you see anyone being forced? People are participating freely,” Nwoye stated.

He accused opposition parties of spreading propaganda to discredit the process, adding, “No government worker in Enugu State is being forced to register with the APC.”

The party chairman further claimed that Enugu State is leading the South-East in the registration exercise, with Udi Local Government Area topping the list within the state. He attributed the turnout to internal unity and public support for the administration of Governor Peter Mbah.

While acknowledging occasional network issues affecting data upload in rural areas, Nwoye insisted available figures already position Enugu favorably in the region.

In his remarks, Chief Agballah emphasized the importance of membership growth for electoral success, stating, “If we have two million registered members, that means two million votes.” He also expressed support for the current state leadership and praised Governor Mbah for fostering party unity.

The event was attended by various party stakeholders, including state lawmakers and local officials, underscoring what APC organizers described as renewed cohesion ahead of future elections.
