APC Official Dismisses Fears of Party Implosion Ahead of 2027 Elections

The Deputy National Organising Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chidi Duru, has dismissed claims that the party faces the risk of internal collapse before the 2027 general elections, attributing recent defections to the party’s appeal rather than instability.
In an interview with Harmattan News, Duru addressed growing concerns raised by political observers and former members, including former PDP spokesman Kola Ologbondiyan and ex-minister Solomon Dalung, who have warned of potential turmoil in the ruling party.
Duru insisted such fears are unfounded, citing the APC’s internal discipline, hierarchical structure, and adherence to its constitution as safeguards against disunity.
“The APC is committed to an established hierarchical order, party constitution, and ideological foundations that keep us stable,” he stated.
He explained that the party maintains active organs at all levels, from ward to national bodies, with frequent consultations and transparent meetings that allow for open discussion and conflict resolution.
Highlighting the APC’s internal engagement, Duru noted that the party held several National Executive Committee meetings in 2025 to deliberate on key issues a move he described as unusual but constructive.
“Meetings are conducted transparently, which helps us anticipate and address matters affecting the party and its members,” he added.
Responding to claims that new members are simply using the APC as a “special-purpose vehicle” for electoral gain, Duru argued that many defectors including governors have the capacity to run on other platforms if they wished. He attributed their decisions to join the APC to the party’s organization, structure, and guiding ideals.
