Bandits Kill Zamfara Official, Abduct Residents in Moriki Town Attack

Armed bandits attacked Moriki town in Zamfara State’s Zurmi Local Government Area on Monday night, killing a local government official and kidnapping several residents.

The assailants, reportedly arriving in large numbers and equipped with sophisticated weapons, opened fire indiscriminately, causing widespread panic and forcing residents to flee their homes.

The attack resulted in the death of Lauwali Musa Moriki, the Health Educator for Zurmi LGA. According to a local source, Bakatsine, the gunmen targeted Moriki at his residence, where they also abducted members of his family.

This latest assault has plunged the community into mourning and exacerbated fears regarding the deteriorating security situation in Zamfara, a region persistently affected by banditry, kidnappings, and violence.

Residents have expressed frustration, accusing security forces of failing to act despite prior warnings and distress calls made during the invasion. Moriki, like many rural towns in the state, has endured repeated attacks by armed groups who often exploit limited security presence and challenging terrain.

The exact number of people abducted remains unclear. The community remains under significant tension as details of the incident continue to emerge.
