Bayelsa Governor Douye Diri Praises Deputy Governor Peter Akpe at Ebedebiri Reception

Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri, has reaffirmed his decision in appointing Dr. Peter Akpe as his deputy, describing him as a highly capable, humble, and loyal partner in governance.

Speaking on Sunday during a grand reception organized in Dr. Akpe’s honor by the Ebedebiri community in Sagbama Local Government Area, Governor Diri noted that the massive turnout confirmed the widespread acceptance and love the deputy governor enjoys among his people.

He stated that Akpe’s appointment was guided by divine direction, pointing out that his journey from humble beginnings serves as an inspiration to many. Governor Diri called on the community and the broader Tarakiri kingdom to maintain unity, support initiatives that impact lives positively, and reject divisive tendencies.

Responding to the honor, Dr. Akpe expressed gratitude to Governor Diri, his family, and the Ebedebiri community for their trust and support. He highlighted that working alongside the governor has taught him valuable lessons in patience, accommodation, and peaceful disposition.

The Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Oil), Dr. Heineken Lokpobiri, who chaired the occasion, commended Governor Diri for selecting Akpe. He noted that the deputy governor’s extensive background in public service ranging from local government administrator to House of Assembly Majority Leader and Chief of Staff equipped him thoroughly for his current role. Lokpobiri assured the administration of continued backing from the Bayelsa West senatorial district.

The event drew goodwill messages from various political figures, including lawmakers, former state deputy governors, and community leaders, who all characterized Akpe as an open-minded and principled public servant while pledging ongoing support for the state government.
