Benjamin Kalu Elected Deputy Speaker Unopposed

Benjamin Kalu has been elected Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives.

Kalu was elected unopposed after he was nominated by Babajimi Benson from Lagos and seconded by Khadija Bukar from Borno State.

The Clerk of the National Assembly Magaji Tambuwal immediately swore in Kalu as the Deputy Speaker.

The new key officials of the 10th NASS were anointed by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

They are the Senate president, Godswill Akpabio; Deputy Senate President, Barau Jibrin; Speaker of the House of Representatives Tajudeen Abbas and Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu.

The senate presidency and speakership seats were hotly contested by elected senators and members, but with consultations and horse-trading the anointed candidates sailed through and were all elected on Tuesday.
