Biden Hails Buhari As “Model Of Democracy”

Joe Biden, US President, has hailed the efforts of President Muhammadu Buhari towards entrenching democracy in Africa.

A statement signed by Garba Shehu, presidential spokesman, disclosed that Biden spoke on Wednesday in Washington during his meeting with leaders of six African countries slated to have elections in 2023.

The US president said the meeting with the select African leaders was to discuss democracy in Africa, share experiences with the US on the forthcoming elections as well as encourage the countries to continue with the democratic process.

Biden added that he followed the trajectory of Buhari from when he was an opposition leader to when he was elected president.

He added that it is “very heartening” that Nigeria is a model for democracy especially the fact that Buhari is not seeking a third term.

He, therefore, encouraged Buhari and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to continue to be totally non-partisan.

The US president also noted that he understands the challenges facing the African countries and expressed the willingness of the US to support them in every area assistance may be required.
