Cult Clashes in Benue Leave Eight Dead

At least eight people have been killed in a series of rival cult clashes that spread across multiple areas of Benue State in recent days.
The violence, which police confirm began earlier this week, affected the local government areas of Otukpo, Gboko, Makurdi, and Jato Aka in Kwande. In Makurdi alone, three individuals were shot dead in separate attacks in the Wurukum area late Wednesday.
The Chairman of Makurdi Local Government Area, Joseph Keffi, condemned the “senseless killings” and assured residents that his administration is working with security agencies to strengthen peace and security.
The state police command had earlier confirmed two deaths in Jato Aka and has intensified efforts against cult activity, including the arrest of four suspects in Gboko last week following related violence. Investigations into the latest incidents are ongoing.
