Dangote Calls for Shift to Local Manufacturing in Nigeria

Dangote Group Chairman Aliko Dangote has emphasized the need for Nigeria to boost local production and backward integration to become Africa’s leading manufacturing hub. Speaking at the Lagos Business School Breakfast Club, Dangote stressed that reducing dependence on imports is crucial for sustainable industrial growth.

He highlighted opportunities presented by the African Continental Free Trade Area, but noted that only efficient and cost-competitive businesses will benefit. Dangote’s comments came during a session on Nigeria’s prospects as Africa’s manufacturing and services hub, alongside a presentation on the country’s 2026 Economic Outlook by Bismarck Rewane of Financial Derivatives Company.

Rewane said Nigeria’s industrial expansion depends on aligning macroeconomic stability with policies supporting productivity, investment, and private-sector confidence.

Participants discussed supply chain resilience, innovation, and private-sector-led growth, underscoring the need for policy, infrastructure, and investment alignment to unlock Nigeria’s industrial potential.
