Davido Defends Appeal to Donald Trump Ahead of Osun Election, Cites Dual Citizenship

Afrobeats star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has defended his recent appeal to United States President Donald Trump regarding the upcoming Osun State governorship election, stating that his dual citizenship gives him the right to address both U.S. and Nigerian leadership.

The musician sparked a widespread debate on social media after calling on the U.S. president and the broader international community to monitor the August 15 poll, citing growing concerns over potential voter intimidation, political violence, and election disruption.

Responding to online critics questioning his direct appeal to foreign leadership, Davido pointed to his status as a dual citizen of both Nigeria and the United States, affirming that both Donald Trump and Nigerian President Bola Tinubu hold presidential leadership over him.

The singer, who is the nephew of incumbent Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, has been actively campaigning for his uncle’s re-election bid.

In his original message, Davido stressed the need for a peaceful, transparent electoral process, urging local authorities and political figures to prevent violence and safeguard the democratic process for Osun residents.
