Defence Minister Pledges Enhanced Security for Schools Nationwide
The Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa (retd.), has committed to strengthening security measures around schools across Nigeria. The pledge aims to ensure a safe and conducive learning environment for all students.
He made the statement in Abuja on Wednesday after receiving an award from the National Parents Teachers Association of Nigeria (NAPTAN). The association honored him for his efforts in safeguarding schools and advancing the Safe Schools Initiative.
“We will continue to work seriously to ensure that our schools are safe,” the Minister said. He emphasized the necessity of collaboration between the government, parents, teachers, and society to protect education and allow every child to reach their potential.
The NAPTAN President, Haruna Danjuma, stated the award recognizes the minister’s commitment to national security, particularly his role in the Safe Schools Programme. The initiative has helped reassure parents and promote school attendance amid security challenges.
The award comes against a backdrop of heightened concerns over attacks and kidnappings targeting educational institutions in parts of the country, which have repeatedly disrupted academic activities.
