According to a statement on Wednesday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, the success followed a coordinated, intelligence-led operation that spanned Rivers and Bayelsa states before concluding in Delta.
Acting on credible intelligence, operatives of the Commissioner of Police Special Assignment Team arrested the suspect in Port Harcourt, Rivers State. The suspect led detectives to Bayelsa, where an AK-47 rifle was recovered.
The operation later moved back to Delta State. In the Patani area, a second AK-47 was recovered. A subsequent raid on a separate criminal network yielded two K-2 rifles, two pump-action guns, two locally made firearms, and a large quantity of ammunition.
This achievement comes shortly after CP Aina Adesola assumed office as the new Commissioner of Police, having pledged to make Delta State hostile to criminals. The Command described the operation as proof of sustained security efforts initiated in the previous year.
The suspects are in custody, and investigations are ongoing to track down other fleeing gang members.
