Doctor dies after childbirth complications following delivery of triplets in Bayelsa

A medical doctor, Dr. Ere Ogbachi, has died from complications following the delivery of triplets in Bayelsa State.
Her death was confirmed in a statement shared on Facebook on Wednesday by her brother, Meshack Sintei. According to the family, she was rushed to the Intensive Care Unit of the Federal Medical Centre in Yenagoa, where she passed away at approximately 2:45 am on April 14, 2026.
The statement explained that complications arose shortly after she successfully gave birth to the triplets at the Niger Delta University Teaching Hospital in Okolobiri, prompting an emergency transfer to the ICU.
Describing the final moments, the family said medical personnel at FMC Yenagoa made every effort to save her life, but her condition deteriorated rapidly. Her oxygen saturation levels reportedly dropped sharply, with the SpO2 machine reading falling from 70 to 50 and then to zero.
Sintei described the loss as devastating, saying his sister was a fighter to the end. He said the entire Sintei family is mourning the passing of a dedicated medical professional and mother of triplets.
Until her death, Dr. Ogbachi was a wife, mother of triplets, a medical doctor, a registrar at the Niger Delta University Teaching Hospital, a member of the Nigerian Medical Association, and an alumna of Niger Delta University.
Efforts to obtain official confirmation from hospital authorities were ongoing at the time of this report.
