Drug Bust: NDLEA Seizes 1,396kg of Narcotics in Adamawa

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has made significant strides in its fight against drug trafficking and abuse in Adamawa State, seizing a total of 1,396.5 kg of narcotics and arresting 150 suspects in December alone.

Commander of the Agency in Adamawa, Mr Aliyu Abubakar, disclosed this at a news conference in Yola, highlighting the agency’s successes in coordinated intelligence-driven operations across the state, including the airport. The seized narcotics include 353kg of cannabis sativa, 983 kg of Tramadol, and 60.500 kg of other opioids.

The NDLEA also seized two vehicles linked to alleged drug offences, recorded six convictions, and has 53 pending cases in court. Additionally, the agency counselled and rehabilitated 39 persons arrested for drug abuse and conducted six War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) sensitisation programmes.

Abubakar attributed the successes to the inspirational leadership of retired Brig.-Gen. Mohamed Marwa, Chairman/Chief Executive of the agency, and appreciated Governor Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa for donating two brand-new operational vehicles to the command.

In a related development, the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Ogun 1 Area Command, intercepted 3,453 parcels of Cannabis sativa with a total Duty Paid Value (DPV) of N435,078,000, in various locations of the state. The Area Comptroller, Mr Oladapo Afeni, handed over the drugs to the NDLEA Commander, Mr Olaniyi Ekundayo, in Idiroko.

These efforts demonstrate the agencies’ commitment to combating drug trafficking and abuse, and Abubakar emphasized the need for collective efforts from traditional and religious leaders to sensitize their people and support the fight against drug abuse.
