Ebonyi Works Commissioner, Mbam Sacked

Ebonyi State Governor, Francis Nwifuru, has removed the Commissioner for Works, Stanley Lebechi Mbam, from office.

The decision was contained in a statement issued on Saturday by the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Monday Uzor.

According to the statement, Nwifuru directed Mbam to immediately hand over all government property in his possession, including his official vehicle, to the Secretary to the State Government.

“The Governor of Ebonyi State, His Excellency Rt. Hon . Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, FNIOB, FCAI GGCEHF has directed the immediate removal from office the Honourable Commissioner for Works Engr. Stanley Lebechi Mbam,” the statement reads.

The former commissioner was also instructed to transfer his official responsibilities to the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Works.

The statement did not state the reason for Mbam’s removal.

However, the governor assured residents that his administration remained committed to effective governance and the improvement of public infrastructure across the state.

Mbam’s latest removal comes about seven months after he was suspended by Nwifuru over alleged dereliction of duty and concerns about the slow pace of project delivery in the Ministry of Works.

On February 28, 2026, the governor suspended Mbam indefinitely alongside the Commissioner for Infrastructure Development for Concession, Ogbonnaya Obasi Abara.

The suspension followed concerns over the pace of infrastructure projects and what the administration described as lapses in the Ministry of Works.

Three days later, on March 3, Mbam publicly apologised to the governor and appealed for another opportunity to serve, taking responsibility for what he described as unmet expectations.

He was later recalled by Nwifuru on May 3, 2026, alongside other suspended officials.

The recall was announced during a Father’s Day service at the Government House Chapel in Abakaliki, after which Mbam resumed as Commissioner for Works.

His return to office lasted about four months before the governor announced his latest removal on September 19, 2026.
