Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has presented a ₦939.85 billion budget for the 2026 fiscal year, dubbed the “Budget of Hope and Growth”, to the state House of Assembly. The budget prioritizes key areas such as security, infrastructure, agriculture, education, job creation, and healthcare, with a focus on delivering tangible benefits to the people.
According to Okpebholo, the budget is designed to build on the progress made in 2025 and expand the reach of government programs to impact the lives of Edo residents across various sectors. The proposed expenditure includes ₦637 billion for capital projects, representing 68% of the budget, and ₦302 billion for recurrent spending, accounting for 32%.
The governor emphasized that the budget’s strong focus on capital investment reflects the administration’s commitment to driving development through strategic investments in roads, schools, hospitals, and other high-impact projects. The budget will be funded through a combination of internally generated revenue, Federation Account Allocation Committee allocations, capital receipts, and public-private partnerships.
Okpebholo assured citizens that the government will not impose additional financial burdens and will instead work to strengthen revenue systems and improve public finance management. The budget allocates significant funds to the economic sector, including ₦614.2 billion for agriculture, roads, and energy, as well as ₦148.9 billion for social services, including education and healthcare.
The administration sector has been allocated ₦157.7 billion to drive civil service reforms and improve governance, while the justice sector received ₦19 billion to enhance justice delivery and support legal reforms. The budget is anchored on the governor’s SHINE Agenda, focusing on security, health, infrastructure, natural resources, and education, with the goal of creating a prosperous and united Edo State.
