Edo State Governor Facilitates Release of Ambrose Alli University Students

Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, has secured the release of Ambrose Alli University students who were remanded in custody following a protest in Ekpoma that turned violent last weekend.
The students were among 52 individuals charged with offenses including malicious damage after hoodlums reportedly hijacked a peaceful demonstration against insecurity, leading to vandalism and road blockades.
During a stakeholders’ meeting at the Government House on Thursday, Governor Okpebholo expressed his distress over the incident and reiterated his administration’s commitment to reviving the university. He cautioned students against being used by criminal elements and urged peaceful dialogue.
The governor also disclosed that his administration has increased the monthly subvention to the university to ₦500 million and acknowledged significant outstanding wage arrears owed to staff, which the state plans to address.
State officials, including the Commissioner for Education, praised the governor’s preference for dialogue and his intervention in securing the students’ release.
