EFCC Recovers Over N1.23 Trillion and Foreign Currencies in Nearly Three Years

The Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Ola Olukoyede, says the agency recovered over N1.23 trillion, $684.48 million, £373,905.78, and €9.34 million between October 2023 and June 2026 as part of its anti-corruption operations.
Speaking during an engagement with media executives and journalists in Abuja on Monday, Olukoyede described asset recovery as a critical aspect of the commission’s mandate in tackling economic and financial crimes.
According to him, the recovered funds and assets were linked to various financial crime investigations conducted by the commission within the period under review.
Olukoyede disclosed that a significant portion of the recovered naira funds was returned to government institutions. He explained that about N397.26 billion, representing 33 per cent of the total naira recoveries, was recovered directly for the Federal Government.
He further stated that the remaining N836.34 billion, accounting for 67 per cent, consisted of recoveries made on behalf of different ministries and government agencies.
The EFCC boss noted that the commission remains committed to strengthening efforts aimed at protecting public resources and ensuring that proceeds of crime are traced and recovered.
He maintained that asset recovery continues to play a vital role in the agency’s broader strategy to combat corruption and financial misconduct across the country.
