Eight Dried Corpses Found in Cross River Mortuary, Police Arrest Attendant

The Cross River State Police Command has confirmed the discovery of eight dried corpses at a private mortuary in the Isong Inyang community, Akamkpa Local Government Area.

One suspect has been arrested in connection with the incident.

In a statement released on Friday, the State Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Eitokpah Sunday, said the discovery was made on February 13, 2026, following a tip-off.

“At about 11:56 a.m., credible information was received by the police regarding the presence of corpses at the facility. Operatives were immediately mobilised to the scene. Upon arrival, eight well-dried corpses were discovered in the hall,” he said.

The suspect, identified as Sunday Ben Reuben, a native of Nsit Ibom in Akwa Ibom State, was taken into custody at the scene. Preliminary investigations reveal that he is a mortician employed by Enghaut Company Mortuary, which operates in the area.

ASP Sunday assured the public that a thorough investigation is underway to determine the circumstances surrounding the deaths and whether any laws have been violated.

He urged residents to remain calm and refrain from speculation, promising that updates would be provided as investigations progress.
