Ekiti Man Dies by Suicide After Alleged Attack on Daughter

The Ekiti State Police Command has launched an investigation after a middle-aged man, identified as Segun, died by suicide in Ise Ekiti, Ise/Orun Local Government Area.

According to sources, the incident occurred in the early hours of Sunday. It was reported that Segun first attempted to slit the throat of his 12-year-old daughter before hanging himself on a tree behind their residence.

A resident, Patrick Abayomi, described the scene, stating that neighbors were alerted by noises from the house. They discovered the man’s lifeless body and immediately rushed the injured girl to a nearby hospital for treatment. He noted that the girl is responding to medical care.

An anonymous source speculated that the tragedy might be linked to an “attempted taboo,” suggesting the man tried to kill his daughter before taking his own life out of shame or distress. The source emphasized relief that the girl survived the attack.

The Police Public Relations Officer for Ekiti State, Superintendent Sunday Abutu, confirmed the incident in a text message. He stated that the Commissioner of Police, Joseph Eribo, has directed a thorough investigation to uncover the circumstances surrounding the event.
