Ekiti Parties to Pay ₦60 Million Fee for Campaign Posters Ahead of Gubernatorial Poll

June 20 Governorship Election
Political parties in Ekiti State must pay a combined total of sixty million naira before displaying campaign posters for the upcoming gubernatorial election, according to the state’s signage regulator.
The Ekiti State Signage and Advertisement Agency (EKSAA) announced that each of the 12 participating political parties is required to pay five million naira as a “Campaign Signage and Advertisement fee.” The Director-General of EKSAA, Adebisi Adesua, disclosed the policy during a public radio programme.
Adesua stated that the fee covers the entire campaign period across all local governments, wards, and council development areas in the state. He explained that the move is intended to curb illegal signage, promote orderliness in public spaces, and ensure that outdoor political advertisements are safe and visually appropriate.
The agency warned that it will begin strict enforcement of signage laws, covering billboards, streetlight poles, posters, and vehicle branding. Non-compliant parties risk having their campaign materials confiscated and facing prosecution. Defaulters may also pay double the original fee to retrieve removed items.
Adesua noted that the All Progressives Congress (APC) and several other parties have already complied with the payment. He clarified that while EKSAA contributes to state revenue, its officials are not authorised to collect taxes or seal business premises.
The governorship election in Ekiti is scheduled for June 20.
