Electricity DisCos Collected N1.13 Trillion Amid Power Supply Challenges

Electricity distribution companies in Nigeria collected a total of N1.13 trillion in revenue from customers between April and September 2025, according to data from the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission. This occurred despite widespread reports of low power supply, blackouts, and a national grid collapse during the period.
In the third quarter of 2025, the DisCos billed customers N706.61 billion and collected N570.25 billion, achieving a collection efficiency of 80.70 percent. This represented an improvement from the 76.07 percent efficiency recorded in the second quarter, when they collected N564.71 billion out of N742.34 billion billed.
Performance varied significantly among the 11 distribution companies. In the third quarter, Ikeja DisCo recorded 100 percent collection efficiency, while Eko, Benin, and Abuja DisCos each exceeded 80 percent. Kaduna DisCo had the lowest efficiency at 45.67 percent.
The NERC report noted that collection efficiency tends to improve when DisCos take less energy from the grid, as they often focus on areas with historically better revenue recovery. The commission emphasized that accurate customer enumeration and metering remain crucial for improving revenue collection.
NERC highlighted ongoing efforts to expand metering, including the completion of the first phase of the Meter Acquisition Fund, which resulted in the installation of over 107,000 meters for Band A customers. A second phase was launched in September 2025 with N28 billion allocated to meter customers in Bands A and B.
