Emmanuel Nnorom Appointed New UBA Group Chairman

United Bank for Africa (UBA) Plc has announced the appointment of Emmanuel Nnorom as its new Group Chairman. He will succeed Tony Elumelu, who is set to retire on August 21, 2026, upon reaching the maximum tenure allowed for non-executive directors under Central Bank of Nigeria corporate governance guidelines.

Nnorom, a seasoned finance executive with over 40 years of experience, is a long-standing member of the UBA board. His appointment is seen as a strategic move to provide continuity and experienced leadership as the bank expands its operations across Africa and international markets.

A veteran of the financial services sector, Nnorom has held numerous high-level roles within UBA. During his previous eight-year tenure in executive management, he served in key positions including Group Chief Operating Officer, Executive Director of Finance, Risk, and Group Executive Office, and as Managing Director/CEO of UBA Africa. His leadership in the latter role was instrumental in strengthening the bank’s pan-African footprint.

Beyond his history with UBA, Nnorom has led several major organizations. Since June 2017, he has served as the Group Chief Executive Officer of Heirs Holdings, overseeing a diverse investment portfolio that spans energy, power, technology, and real estate. Prior to that, he served as the President and CEO of Transnational Corporation Plc (Transcorp) from 2014 to 2017.

His extensive corporate background also includes senior management roles at Diamond Bank, NUB International Bank, and Liberty Merchant Bank, where he gained expertise in risk management, human resources, and regulatory affairs.

Nnorom is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria and an honorary member of the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria. He holds management credentials from Templeton College, Oxford. He is scheduled to officially assume his new role as UBA Group Chairman on August 21, 2026.
