End of a Crisis: Kidnapped Oyo Pupils and Teachers Safely Recovered

The long-standing ordeal for families in Oyo State has ended as the pupils and teachers abducted from schools in the Orire Local Government Area have been rescued and have regained their freedom.
The official announcement came on Friday through the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, who confirmed that security agencies successfully secured the release of the captives. While authorities have confirmed the rescue, specific details regarding the operation including whether any conditions were met or if any suspects remain at large have not been disclosed.
The victims were seized on May 15, 2026, when armed individuals raided three schools across the Esiele and Yawota communities. The attack resulted in the abduction of 39 students and seven staff members, including a principal. The incident was marked by tragedy, as two teachers lost their lives during and after the initial assault.
Throughout the months-long crisis, the Oyo State Government maintained a firm stance against paying ransoms. The abduction caused significant national concern, leading to a month-long strike by the Nigeria Union of Teachers, who demanded immediate and decisive government action to secure the hostages.
Following sustained pressure and extensive operations by federal security forces, the victims have now been reunited with their families, bringing relief to the state after weeks of public anxiety.
