Enugu Governor Commends Security Agencies Following Seizure of ESN Weapons Cache

Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah has highly praised the collaborative efforts of the Department of State Services (DSS), the Nigerian Army, and the Nigeria Police Force for their strategic role in strengthening security within the state and the wider South-East region.

The governor’s commendation followed an inspection at the State DSS headquarters on Friday, where security forces displayed a substantial cache of arms and ammunition seized during a targeted raid on an armoury belonging to the proscribed Eastern Security Network (ESN).

According to an official government statement, the intelligence-led joint operation conducted by DSS operatives and troops from the Nigerian Army’s 82 Division successfully uncovered heavy weaponry. The confiscated items included a rocket launcher, two Rocket-Propelled Grenade (RPG) warheads, three RPG chargers, 11 AK-47 rifles, and over 610 rounds of 7.62mm NATO ammunition. National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) uniforms and lanyards were also recovered during the sweep.

Governor Mbah, flanked by senior administration officials and security chiefs, noted that the preemptive strike successfully neutralized a looming threat, effectively blocking coordinated attacks designed to destabilize Enugu and neighboring eastern states.

He emphasized that the intercepted arsenal was intended to cause widespread disruption and manipulate public perception regarding the country’s security landscape.

Additionally, the governor called on citizens across all political and religious divides to remain united in supporting federal initiatives spearheaded by President Bola Tinubu to combat regional instability.
