Enugu Police Foil Kidnapping Attempt on Adani-Nsukka Road

Police operatives in Enugu State thwarted a kidnapping attempt along the Adani-Nsukka Road on Sunday after engaging suspected kidnappers in an early morning gun battle.
The incident occurred around 6:00 a.m. on January 18 along the Ngene-Ukwu axis, where officers from the Adani Division, supported by the local Neighbourhood Watch Group, intercepted the assailants as they reportedly emerged from a nearby bush.
Confirming the encounter, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Daniel Ndukwe, stated that one suspect was fatally wounded during the exchange of fire. An AK-47 rifle loaded with two rounds of live ammunition was also recovered from the scene.
According to the police, the suspects opened fire on sighting the security personnel, leading to a confrontation in which the remaining members of the group reportedly fled into a nearby forest with gunshot injuries.
A manhunt has been initiated to locate and apprehend the fleeing suspects. The police have called on residents, especially healthcare providers in the area, to report any individuals presenting with suspicious injuries or gunshot wounds.
Commissioner of Police CP Mamman Giwa commended the operatives for their response and reaffirmed the command’s dedication to ensuring public safety and combating violent crime across the state.
