Euracare Hospital Launches Probe After Chimamanda Adichie Alleges Negligence in Son’s Death

Euracare Hospital in Lagos has launched an internal investigation after renowned author Chimamanda Adichie alleged that negligence at the facility led to the death of her 21-month-old son.
Adichie’s twin son, Nkanu Nnamdi, died recently after a brief illness. The author publicly stated that the death resulted from “criminal negligence,” specifically criticizing an anesthesiologist’s care.
In a statement, Euracare Hospital expressed its “deepest sympathies” to Adichie and her family, calling the loss “profound and unimaginable.” However, it disputed the accuracy of some reports circulating about the incident.
The hospital stated that the critically ill child had been referred to its facility for specific diagnostics after prior treatment at two other pediatric centers. It asserted that its medical team provided immediate care following established clinical protocols and international standards, in collaboration with external specialists.
Despite these efforts, the child died less than 24 hours after arrival. Euracare emphasized its commitment to transparency and patient safety, confirming that a detailed internal probe has begun in line with its clinical governance practices.
It pledged continued support for the grieving family while the process unfolds.
