FCTA Approves N1.1 Billion for Security Equipment, N7.3 Billion for Waste Management

The Executive Committee of the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has given the green light to two major contracts totaling billions of naira, aimed at bolstering security and improving environmental sanitation in the nation’s capital.
The approval, which followed a meeting presided over by FCT Minister, Mr Nyesom Wike, in Abuja on Monday, includes N1.1 billion for the emergency procurement of communication gadgets for security agencies operating in the territory.
Mr Musa Onsachi, the FCTA Director of Procurement, disclosed this while briefing journalists after the meeting. He explained that the initiative is designed to enhance the operational effectiveness of security personnel by addressing a critical shortfall in equipment.
“When the Minister assumed office in August 2023, he identified a significant gap in the critical communications gadgets required for efficient security operations,” Mr Onsachi stated. He noted that the new procurement aims to bridge this gap, enabling security agencies to carry out their assignments more effectively.
This latest support follows a previous intervention in July 2024, when the Minister presented 50 operational vehicles equipped with communication gadgets to security agencies to strengthen the fight against insecurity in the FCT.
Waste Management Contracts Valued at N7.3 Billion
In a separate development, the committee also approved contracts totaling N7.3 billion for waste collection and management services across four key districts within the Federal Capital City.
Chief Felix Obuah, Coordinator of the Abuja Metropolitan Management Council, identified the districts set to benefit from the improved sanitation services as Durumi, Wuye, Mabushi, and Jabi.
He further disclosed that the executive committee approved a two-year contract for the supply of diesel to the Wupa Basic Waste Treatment Plant to ensure its uninterrupted operation. “The total figure for the award of these four contracts amounted to N7.3 billion,” Mr Obuah confirmed.
Additionally, the coordinator announced that the committee approved a contract for the procurement of food and non-food items to provide relief to residents affected by recent flooding in the FCT.
