A fire broke out in the early hours of Wednesday, severely damaging several shops within a two-story building near Ikotun Roundabout in Lagos State. The affected shops were reported to contain electronics valued at millions of naira.

The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service confirmed the incident in a statement released on Thursday by the Controller General, Margret Adeseye. According to the agency, a distress call was received at 12:22 a.m., with firefighters arriving at the scene by 12:32 a.m.

The statement described the site as a shopping complex with 24 shops of varying sizes, all of which sustained significant damage. Firefighting teams used a combination of foam and water to combat the blaze, with support from units in Enigbo, Isolo, and Ijegun.

Personnel from the Ikotun Police Division were present to maintain order during the operation. The fire was successfully brought under control, and no injuries or fatalities were reported.

Preliminary investigations suggest the cause was an electrical surge due to negligence.

This incident follows another recent fire at Arena Market in Oshodi just days earlier, and occurs as emergency responders continue to manage the aftermath of a separate blaze at the Great Nigeria Insurance plaza on December 24.
