Fire Guts Ex-Gov’s Abuja Building, Millions Lost.

A massive fire has ravaged a property belonging to former Zamfara State Governor, Senator Ahmed Yerima, in Abuja’s Asokoro district, resulting in significant losses estimated to be worth millions of naira.

The blaze, which broke out on Saturday afternoon, affected four out of five blocks of three-bedroom flats located at No. 13 Nelson Mandela Street, destroying valuable items, including furniture, clothing, and food items.

According to information reports, the fire originated from solar panels mounted on the roof of the building and quickly spread, prompting an emergency response from authorities. The FCT Emergency Management Department (FEMD) received the distress call at around 1 pm, and a team of emergency responders, including the Federal Fire Service and the FCT Fire Service, were deployed to the scene to contain the fire.

The Head of FEMD’s Search and Rescue Team, Monday Addie, confirmed that the four affected flats were completely destroyed, but fortunately, there were no reported casualties. The swift intervention of emergency personnel prevented further spread of the fire, and the area has been secured by the FCT Police Command.

The cause of the fire is still unknown, and an investigation is likely to be conducted to determine the extent of the damage and the circumstances surrounding the incident.
