First Lady’s ₦50m Community Green Challenge Closes Without Entries

The community category of the Renewed Hope Initiative Green Nigeria Challenge has officially closed without receiving any valid submissions, First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu announced. Designed to encourage local governments, youth groups, schools, and non-governmental organizations to convert neglected spaces like dumpsites and landfills into eco-friendly parks, the category carried a ₦50 million prize prior to its July 15 deadline.

Despite the lack of participation in the community segment, Mrs. Tinubu commended Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike for the recent remodeling of the Abuja City Gate. She cited the project as a practical model of urban environmental transformation and urged state governments to adopt similar strategies by improving waste management and clearing drainage channels to mitigate flooding.

Meanwhile, two other components of the environmental campaign remain ongoing. The Household Category offers a ₦20 million prize for tree-planting efforts across 10 northern frontline states, while the State Category features a ₦100 million prize for broader state-led initiatives. Both categories will remain open for submissions through state First Ladies’ offices until December 20.
