Fmr Chief of Staff to Makinde, Bisi Ilaka Resigns from PDP

Bisi Ilaka, former Chief of Staff to Seyi Makinde and senior Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) figure, has formally resigned from the party.

In a resignation letter dated Tuesday, February 10, and made available to newsmen on Thursday, Ilaka expressed gratitude to the PDP for the opportunities he enjoyed at both the state and national levels.

Governor Makinde appointed Ilaka as his pioneer Chief of Staff on May 29, 2019, shortly after assuming office.

Ilaka held the position until 2021, when Segun Ogunwuyi took over and was later reappointed following the 2023 general elections.

In his letter addressed to “The Chairman, Ward 5, Oyi East LG,” Ilaka stated: “It is with utmost humility that I tender my resignation of membership from the PDP. I am eternally grateful for the opportunities afforded to me by the party and the unalloyed support given to me over the years. Till we meet again.”

Ilaka’s departure follows that of another prominent PDP member in Oyo State, former Deputy Chief Whip of the Senate, Senator Agboola Ayoola, popularly known as Alleluyah, who left the party in October 2025.

Ayoola, from Itesiwaju Local Government Area, previously served as Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs under former governors Rashidi Ladoja and the late Adebayo Alao-Akala between 2003 and 2011.

Ayoola also made history as the only PDP senator elected from the South-West between 2011 and 2015, marking a notable precedent in the region.

Political analysts say Ilaka’s resignation could signal a further realignment of PDP members in Oyo State ahead of upcoming elections, raising questions about the party’s internal cohesion and future strategy.
