Former Benue Governor Gabriel Suswam Resigns from PDP

Ex-senator cites unresolved internal crises and lack of party cohesion in resignation letter.

Former Benue State Governor and ex-Senator, Gabriel Suswam, has officially resigned his membership from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

His resignation was communicated in a letter dated Wednesday, February 4, 2026, addressed to his ward chairman in Logo Local Government Area and shared publicly by his Chief of Staff.

In the letter, Suswam stated that his decision followed deep reflection on the party’s prolonged internal disputes. He expressed gratitude for the platform that enabled his service as a House of Representatives member, governor, and senator but lamented that the PDP is now “plagued by persistent and unresolved internal conflicts.”

He criticized the party’s inability to resolve crises related to its leadership, structure, discipline, and ideological direction, despite repeated reconciliation efforts. Suswam concluded he could no longer align his political career with a platform locked in a “cycle of crisis.”

“I believe that political parties must serve as platforms for ideas, discipline, and constructive engagement, not arenas of endless internal warfare,” he wrote.

Suswam expressed hope the party would eventually resolve its issues but stated he was stepping aside to seek a stable platform for contributing to national development.

At the time of reporting, the PDP leadership had not issued an official reaction to his resignation.
