Former Osun Lawmaker Empowers Widows with Business Grants

In a move aimed at fostering economic self-reliance, a former member of the Osun State House of Assembly, Olatunbosun Oyintiloye, has distributed financial grants to widows operating small-scale businesses in the Obokun Local Government Area.

The distribution, which took place on Tuesday during an event marking Oyintiloye’s birthday, provided beneficiaries with cash grants ranging from ₦30,000 to ₦50,000.

Speaking at the ceremony, Oyintiloye, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, stated that the initiative was designed to align with the federal advocacy for grassroots entrepreneurship. He emphasized that small and medium-scale enterprises remain the backbone of the economy, providing essential support for families and serving as a sustainable pathway to financial independence.

Addressing critics of the government’s push for small-scale ventures, Oyintiloye defended the initiative, arguing that those who belittle small-scale trading overlook its potential for long-term growth. He noted that many successful business owners began with modest enterprises, eventually scaling up to become significant employers of labor.

“Starting small is a dignified path to self-reliance,” Oyintiloye remarked, encouraging the beneficiaries to invest the funds wisely to expand their ventures. He pledged continued support to help the women grow their businesses into more sustainable operations.

The event also featured a brief reflection by the former Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in Obokun, Pastor Benjamin Fabelurin, who commended the act of philanthropy. He urged the attendees to focus on impactful living and community service as a reflection of personal growth.
