Former UNIBEN VC, Adamu Baikie, Passes Away.

The University of Benin has announced the passing of former Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Adamu Baikie, who died at the age of 94. The institution’s current Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Edoba Omoregie, described the late scholar as a distinguished educationist whose impact was felt across Nigeria and beyond.
Prof. Baikie served as Vice-Chancellor of the University of Benin from 1978 to 1986 and made history as the first Professor of Education in Northern Nigeria. He also served as Vice-Chancellor of the National University of Lesotho and Nasarawa State University, where he played key roles in strengthening institutional growth and academic standards.
In a statement, Prof. Omoregie referred to Prof. Baikie as an accomplished administrator and visionary educator, noting that his contributions helped shape modern educational development in several institutions. He urged the family to draw comfort from Prof. Baikie’s remarkable life of dedication to learning, leadership, and service to humanity.
The University of Benin offered prayers for the peaceful repose of Prof. Baikie’s soul and expressed solidarity with his family, friends, and professional associates during this period of loss. His legacy is expected to continue guiding future generations of scholars and university administrators.
