Fresh Claims Emerge Over SGF Project Office Controversy

New details have surfaced in the controversy surrounding the National Brands Development and Made-in-Nigeria Special Project Office, as officials within the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (OSGF) challenge allegations that the initiative is a fake government agency.

Sources familiar with the matter alleged that a fallout between the project’s promoter, George Nwabueze, and some senior officials within the OSGF may have triggered the petition that led to the ongoing investigation. They insisted the office is a government-backed project initiative and not an independent agency.

The officials argued that the project had operated within the OSGF structure for several years and claimed it was wrongly portrayed as an unauthorized agency following internal disagreements.

Responding to the allegations, Nwabueze maintained that the project was lawfully established and operated under the supervision of the OSGF. He accused some serving and former officials of frustrating its activities through administrative actions, including the alleged suppression of key project documents.

He also revealed that a court case had been filed over attempts to remove the project from the OSGF, stressing that the dispute remains before the judiciary.

According to Nwabueze, the initiative was created to promote national development objectives and had received official backing through government approvals and supervisory arrangements.

Meanwhile, the Presidency said investigations into the matter were still ongoing, noting that a final report and recommendations were expected upon the conclusion of the probe.

The House of Representatives also signalled that it would not interfere with the investigation, saying relevant authorities should be allowed to complete their work before any conclusions are reached.
