FUOYE Appoints Wole Olanipekun Visiting Professor of Law

As legal icon donates N10million to best-graduating students

The Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE) has announced the appointment of Chief Wole Olanipekun, Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), as a visiting professor of Constitutional Law to the institution.
The announcement by the Vice Chancellor, Professor Abayomi Sunday Fasina, was the high point of the weeklong activities marking the 7th Convocation ceremonies of the fast-pacing citadel of learning in the ancient city. Professor Fasina said the decision was to afford the students the benefit of the wealth of experience of the legal icon and philanthropist.
The VC made the announcement even as Olanipekun and two other eminent Nigerians were conferred with an honorary doctorate of the institution. Other awardees were former Managing Director of First Bank, Bisi Onasanya and former skipper of Super Eagles, Segun Odegbam.
The university also conferred meritorious awards on deserving individuals for advancement in their fields of practice as well as in recognition of support to the human community. The awardees include the Chairman of Yem Kem International Group of Companies, Prince Akitunde Ayeni for his pioneering contribution in trado-medical practice; Otunba Lanre Adesuyi, information and library development expert and Dare Owolabi, a legal practitioner and human rights activist.
Professor Fasina said Chief Olanipekun had become a role model not only in the legal profession but in the promotion of quality education as well as philosophy.
He explained that Olanipekun who is currently chairman Body of Benchers has contributed in no small measure to humanity and national development.
Fasina also praised the institution for carving a niche for itself on the international grid of academic excellence within the shortest time of its creation.
While praising the graduating students for their academic feats Fasina enjoined them to be good ambassadors of the university by positively projecting the image of the institution in all spheres.
In his remarks, the apparently elated Olanipekun thanked the University management for the bestowed on him. The Senior Advocate of Nigeria also used the occasion to announce a ₦ 10 million donation to the first 20 best-graduating students in the Law Faculty and promised to commence immediate interactions with the Law students of FOUYE as soon as possible.
Olanipekun admonished the elites to shun unnecessary envy and to always appreciate honest donations and support from individuals like him to society in order not to discourage them.
He also admonished the academia to deploy their God’s giving knowledge in profitable ventures rather than indulging
The legal giant said all his donations to individuals, church as well as the community were not intended for any personal rewards.
Referring to the recent donation of the High Court Complex to Ekiti State Judiciary, Olanipekun said that the gesture was in line with the best global practices.
He specifically mentioned that the edifices housing the International Court of Justice, Hague and the Israeli Supreme Court were both donated by private individuals.
Onasanya also announced a two million Naira donation to the best-graduating students in Accounting.
