Gambari To Chair NLC Book Presentation September 19

Chief of Staff to President Muhammadu Buhari, Professor Ibrahim Gambari is set to  chair a book presentation by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) on Monday September 19, 2022.

A programme of the presentation of the book entitled Contemporary History of Working Class Struggles showed that the event is meant to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the NLC.

Professor Dafe Otobo of the University of Lagos, will review the book on the day of the presentation which would hold at the Shehu Musa Yar’Adua, Center in Abuja.

NLC President Ayuba Wabba told reporters that the book “tells the story of the struggle, challenges and successes of the working class in Nigeria.”

Wabba said the book would not be sold, adding that the book would be distributed free to all public libraries, NLC offices nationwide and the HQs.

He said: “The book is a compendium of the challenges, difficulties, successes and milestones of the Nigerian workers and their representative trade unions on the auspices of the Nigeria Labour Congress as a national centre.

“It captured the story of the NLC from the colonial era to the period after independence, to the period of the re-organization of the NLC and through the dark years of military rule and the struggle of the working class in the past 23 years of democratic rule.

“The NLC whose affiliates were first organized as the Federated Trade Unions of Nigeria (FTU) in November 1942 and later Trade Union Congress of Nigeria in July 1943 and a few years later as the first Nigeria Labour Congress in 1951 fought side by side with the Nationalist to secure Nigeria’s independence.

“The contribution of NLC to national development is unparalleled and championed several struggles aimed at deepening national development”, he added.
