Gov Oborevwori Set For Two-Weeks Working Leave

Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, will proceed on a two-week working leave from Monday, September 7, 2026.

Governor Oborevwori disclosed this in a letter to the Delta State House of Assembly, which resumed plenary on Wednesday after its recess.

Oborevwori’s notification of the leave was contained in a series of communications presented to the House by the Speaker, Emomotimi Guwor, during plenary.

The governor is expected to spend two weeks on working leave beginning September 7.

The development came as the governor forwarded a bill seeking the enactment of a law providing for the payment of a 13th-month salary to eligible public servants in the state.

In his letter, Oborevwori said the State Executive Council had approved the payment as a welfare initiative designed to boost workers’ morale, productivity and overall wellbeing.

The proposed law seeks to establish a legal framework for the payment, with the 13th-month salary equivalent to one gross monthly salary for eligible public servants.

The governor urged the Assembly to consider and pass the bill.

The House also received two other bills seeking amendments to the High Court Amendment Law, 2023, and the Delta State Customary Court of Appeal Amendment Law, 2001.

According to the governor, the proposed amendments are aimed at strengthening the administration of justice in the state.

Under the proposed amendment to the High Court Law, the number of judges in the Delta State High Court would increase from 45 to 50, including the Chief Judge.

Similarly, the number of judges of the Customary Court of Appeal would rise from nine to 12.

Oborevwori said the increases would enhance the effective and efficient administration of justice in Delta State.

Meanwhile, the governor nominated Emasogbe Matthew Oghene for appointment as the Auditor-General of Delta State following the retirement of the former occupant of the office.

The Speaker directed the nominee to submit 35 copies of his curriculum vitae to the Office of the Clerk on or before Monday, September 7.

Oghene is scheduled to appear before the Assembly for screening on Tuesday, September 8.
