Gov Yusuf Announces N100m Relief To Fire Ravaged Singer- Market Traders

Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has announced a N100 million relief package for traders affected by the recent fire outbreak at Singer Market, alongside the approval of N3 billion for major road expansion and rehabilitation projects around key commercial areas in Kano.

The governor made the announcement on Thursday during a sympathy visit to the market, where a large number of shops were destroyed by the inferno.

According to a statement by the Director General, Media and Publicity, Government House, Kano, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, the intervention is part of broader efforts to support affected traders and strengthen the state’s commercial infrastructure.

Governor Yusuf said his administration was deeply concerned about the hardship faced by victims of the fire and would ensure they receive the necessary support to resume their businesses.

“I am deeply saddened by what happened here. The government will not abandon you in this difficult moment,” the governor was quoted as saying.

He explained that the N100 million assistance is meant to help traders recover from their losses and get back on their feet.

During the visit, the governor was received by the Chairman of Singer Market, Barrister Junaidu Muhammad Zakari; an elder of the market, Alhaji Sabi’u Bako; and the owner of the affected plaza, Alhaji Munzali Mazaf.

Beyond the immediate relief, Governor Yusuf directed the expansion and rehabilitation of internal roads within Singer Market to improve accessibility and commercial activities.

He also approved the award of N3 billion for the expansion and rehabilitation of Bello Road, Ado Bayero Road, Kandoki, Yolawa and Kwangiri roads, aimed at reducing flooding and traffic congestion in major market corridors.

The governor further announced plans to solarise Singer Market, as part of his administration’s urban renewal and market modernisation drive.

He directed contractors handling the road projects to mobilise to site and commence work within 10 days.

Market leaders and elders commended the governor for the visit and interventions, describing them as timely and reassuring, while pledging their support for the state government’s development initiatives
