GRIP & CAPSTONE Counsels Students on Gender-Based Violence in Ado Ekiti
In a proactive move to address pressing social challenges among young people, GRIP, in partnership with the CAPSTONE initiative, paid a sensitization visit to Ayo Fasanmi Model College in Ado Ekiti on March 13, 2026. The program was designed to educate students on critical societal issues, with a primary focus on gender-based violence and other related social problems threatening the youth.

The event was spearheaded by a team from the organization, led by Mr. Ashiri and the GRIP Program Officer, Mrs. Abimbola Fatimehin. Setting a vibrant tone for the day, Mr. Ashiri kicked off the session by engaging the students in a series of songs. This interactive opening successfully captured the students’ attention and fostered a relaxed yet focused atmosphere conducive to learning.

Delivering the core message of the program, Mrs. Abimbola Fatimehin delivered an extensive presentation on gender-based violence. She meticulously broke down the meaning of the term and underscored its gravity as a pressing societal concern.

Mrs. Fatimehin passionately urged the students to break the culture of silence, advising them to always speak out whenever they face any form of violation or abuse. She cautioned that remaining silent only exacerbates the situation and prevents victims from accessing the necessary help.
To ensure a comprehensive understanding, she elaborated on the various forms gender-based violence can take. She encouraged the students to be vigilant and to report any incidents of abuse to trusted authorities, including teachers, parents, and school guidance counselors.
Complementing the verbal discourse, Mr. Ashiri facilitated an educational video session for the students. The visual presentation highlighted a range of social vices, including drug abuse, rape, and human trafficking. The graphic depiction of these issues and their consequences served to reinforce the day’s lessons, leaving a lasting impression on the young audience.
Conclusion
The sensitization exercise concluded on a high note, proving to be both informative and deeply impactful. In a significant development, the GRIP team provided immediate counseling to six female students. Following these initial discussions, the students were referred to the school counselor for continued monitoring and support.
Ultimately, the program succeeded in equipping the students with vital knowledge about gender-based violence, while empowering them to speak out against abuse and make positive life choices.
