Gunmen Enforce 5- day Sit-at-home Order In Ebonyi

Gunmen in Ebonyi State have continued the enforcement of the 5-day-sit –at-home order started on Monday to Wednesday.
The gunmen reportedly stormed Nwakpu market in Ndufu Alike in Ikwo Local Government Area of Ebonyi State enforcing the sit-at-home order by burning vehicles and some motorcycles.
Ebonyi residents had ignored the order on Friday the day it was supposed to commence till Monday when gunmen invaded the capital city and forced residents indoors.
The situation continued on Wednesday as residents stayed indoors with most shops in the city under lock.
The International Market recorded a low turnout of traders and customers while there was a skeletal Intra City transport service.
Residents revealed that the gunmen wore black and black attires with a hood, and stormed the market, which is a few metres away from the Deputy Governor’s House and Alex Ekwueme Federal University, shooting sporadically.
Traders and shop owners were forcefully chased away from the market to observe the sit-at-home order
A driver of a vehicle burnt by the suspected terrorists was shot in the hip as he attempted to put out the fire.
The development disrupted activities in and around the market as traders and passersby fled for safety
Commander of Ebubeagu security outfit Friday Nnanna Ujor said the attackers are not members of the Indigenous people of Biafra( IPOB) but hoodlums who invaded the Nwakpu market to rob traders of their belongings.
“What happened was that some boys invaded the Nwakpu market to rob traders. They are not members of IPOB. This is because the gunmen came into the market with locally-made pistols.
“We are on track to get them. We are putting our touch light on them to arrest them. From now till tomorrow, we will apprehend them” he stated
Ebonyi Police spokesperson Chris Anyanwu said he was not aware of the incident and promised to get details.
