Hoodlums Set Ogun INEC Office Ablaze

The office of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) at Iyana Mortuary, Abeokuta, Ogun State has been set ablaze by hoodlums.
It was gathered that the about eight arsonists jumped over the fence to gain entrance into the building to set it on fire.
Azeez Hamzat, security guard at the office, reportedly called the police around 1am on Thursday when the fire started.
The arsonists soaked loaves of bread with petrol and throew them into the building.
The police from Ibara division came to the scene, while firefighters put out the fire.
The Registration Area Officer’s office, conference room and non-sensitive materials were burnt.
The INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner, Niyi Ijalaye, who expressed shock over the fire, said the police are investigating.
“We called the police and other security agencies at night. The fire brigade put the situation under control. The level of damage is still being assessed.
“It is very shocking and untoward. The security agencies are doing their very best. We are meeting again later today to come up with other strategies (toward securing our facilities),” Ijalaye said.
