IBEDC Recovers Excess Units Credited to Customers After System Glitch

The Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company has started clawing back excess electricity units that were mistakenly credited to some customers due to an internal system error.
In a public notice explaining recent complaints about reduced units on recent purchases, the company said the glitch occurred between April and June 2026, when its system wrongly applied an outdated tariff to certain customer accounts. This caused those accounts to receive more units than customers had actually paid for.
IBEDC said it is now correcting the error by deducting the excess units previously credited which is why some customers have noticed fewer units than expected in recent transactions.
The company clarified that there has been no change to the Band A tariff, which remains at N209.50 per unit inclusive of VAT.
Customers unsure whether their accounts were affected have been advised to reach out to IBEDC’s customer service line with their meter number, name and phone number.
“We sincerely regret the inconvenience caused by this system glitch and appreciate your understanding as we resolve the issue,” the company said.
